The Art of Henna

Henna

I came across Henna 4 or 5 years ago, but have been in love with it for the past 2 years. The ancient art has become one of my favorite art outlets.

Henna is a paste, which dyes the skin a red-brown color. Made from the henna tree, the paste is packed into a cone and piped on the skin like icing on a cake. Traditionally, the designs are intricate floral patterns made up of various elements, like the one above. The art of Henna tattoos has been around for around 5,000 years! It is often used in the Indian wedding ceremony.
7 Hours of Henna in 90 Seconds
Henna paste dries fairly fast, but in order to get the best result you must leave it on as long as possible (around 2 to 3 hours at least). Done right, Henna can last from 1 to 2 weeks, although the more contact it has with water the faster it will fade.
Although the traditional Henna designs are truly beautiful, many artist have taken this medium and made it their own, creating a wide variety of styles. Here are some I found to be especially lovely.

Henna tattoos are a creative outlet, a cool summer look, and really fun to apply. If you are someone who likes to try new things, someone likes tattoos, or someone who likes art, then you should really consider trying Henna.

  1. I was into this stuff when I was probably 6 years old. The only differences were that the tattoos were on little pieces of paper and you had to put them on with a wet rag.
